Jesus Cried Out

Is God's sovereignty ever to be interpreted as a capricious, indifferent, or apathetic demeanor on His part towards the lost? No. Consider John 12:44. You can circle it: "And Jesus cried out."

Wisdom of the Day: "It shocks me as I study through John's gospel how much Jesus cares about people that reject Him. It should be shocking to you." – Jonny Ardavanis
Scripture Focus: John 12:44-50

"And Jesus cried out and said, 'He who believes in Me, does not believe in Me but in Him who sent Me... I have come as Light into the world, so that everyone who believes in Me will not remain in darkness.'"

Cried out. That just means there's a level of urgency and passion. There's zero "Well, I told them the truth. Ball's in their court."

Every week I spend so many hours thinking about the truth found in God's Word and it constantly shocks me how much Jesus cares about people that reject Him.

He's crying out to this group of people that mock him and say, "Who do you think you are? Show us a sign! Abraham is our father. Let's stone Jesus for the fifth time!"

And here you have Jesus: crying out:

"He who believes in Me does not believe in Me but in Him who sent Me. He who sees Me sees the One who sent Me."

If you were to ask the question, "What is God like?" the answer would be: Jesus of Nazareth.

"I have come as Light into the world, so that everyone who believes in Me will not remain in darkness. If anyone hears My sayings and does not keep them, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world."

Watch this: "He who rejects Me and does not receive My sayings, has one who judges him; the word I spoke is what will judge him at the last day."

What does that mean? It just means on the last day, Jesus doesn't have to do the judging because—do not miss this—young man, young girl, old man, anybody: on the day of judgment, every single ounce of truth you have ever been exposed to is going to rise up and condemn you if you reject Jesus Christ.

Every gospel sermon is going to stand up in the judgment and say, "It was so clear."

Sobering.

You may be asking, "how do I know if I'm one of the chosen?"

Super easy answer: If you come to Jesus in faith.

Pray the prayer of the man who comes to Jesus and says, "I believe, but Lord, help my unbelief." That is the prayer Jesus answers.

J.C. Ryle once said that God is willing to soften the hardest heart and to open the eyes of the blindest sinner. Your sin may be large, but "His mercy is more."

Don't cover your ears. Hear His voice. Listen to Him say, "Today is the day of salvation." Don't wait. Unbelief hardens. But Jesus cries out through His Word today and says, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved."

Reflection Questions:

1. Do you hear the urgency in Jesus's voice—crying out to you?

2. Is there any truth you've been exposed to that will rise up and condemn you if you continue to reject Christ?

3. Will you pray today: "I believe, but Lord, help my unbelief"?
💡
Write this on your heart: Jesus cried out. He is not indifferent, nor distant. He is urgent. Passionate. Crying out to me. Today is the day of salvation.
