This message expounds Philippians 2:5–11 and examines the divine perspective of the incarnation of Christ. Paul sets before us the mind of Christ Jesus, who existed in the form of God and did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant and being made in the likeness of men.
The passage traces His humiliation to its depth — becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross — and then His exaltation, as God highly exalted Him and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. The wonder of the incarnation is not only what Christ became, but the humility with which He came.
